One degree....

You know, no matter the crap that happens during the day, the week. No matter what it does, no matter how heavy it makes my heart, I'm reminded - dispite all that, there are unending fonts of kindness
Humans have an amazing capacity for kindness - deep in everyone - i believe it
My fellow riders and I would not be so successful in helping our cause.
My donors may never meet my friends for whom I ride but they are just one degree of separation thanks to kindness. They have touch lives everywhere - one degree, one hope, one wee group of people.
Much love and good wish
Miss Maggi of the Cycling Pants.

My first donation!

I recieved my first donation today! WOO HOO! $25 down, $3975 to go
Nervous? me? well, yes... yes I am. When it comes down to it, the only reason i can give for doing this and asking for donations is... well... for love - of people, of families, of life.
If you think it's all B.S., that's ok, not a lot of people think the same things.
If you think I'm nuts, yeah, I'll wear that like a badge of honor.
If you think no one really benefits, that's where I'll tell you you are wrong.
here is a note from a young lady I met through last years ride. She's about 16 years old and has been surviving and thriving.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Marissa Hull and I am one of your honored teammates!  I met many of you at the kick-off several weeks ago.  I was wondering how your training was going?  My Dad has come home the last couple of Saturdays very enthusiastic and says that everyone seems to be doing very well.  So I guess that means you are all having fun and that the season is off to a great start!
I wanted to thank you for all of your efforts with training and with fundraising.  It is a great thing you are doing and I hope you know how important you are to people like me, who might not be where we are today if it was not for people like you raising money to help find better treatment for these cancers.  I really admire you a lot for what you are doing.  I know it is not easy fundraising and I know if is not always easy training every Saturday.  I did the Virginia Beach half-marathon last September with Team In Training, so I know the hard work it takes to raise the money and to train!  But I do want you to know how much I appreciate you!
I wanted to let you know that I will be at your training this Saturday.  I am looking forward to seeing you all out there on your bikes and helping you out however I can!  At least I can cheer you on!!
Keep up the great work!   GO TEAM!!!
Marissa

SO FREAKIN COLD!

Ok, for those of your out there who think I'm a wuss for not riding in the cold... Ok, fine, I am a wuss.
DUDE, it's cold! When you are standing still in the sunshine it doesn't feel so bad. On a shade covered path going 17 MPH it's a little nippy - EEK!
I'm very happy to say that I sent out 110 donation letters this past week. If i were to get $40 from each I would make my goal and then some! Normally about 1/2 the folks I send letters to donate and that's totally cool. I'm a little nervous this year, like I was last. In the past my company would always sponcer me a nice big donation, but since changing companies, I've missed that little help =( I did have some fabu individual donors from around the office - that was great. I have faith that they'll support this effort again =)
My Training:
I was a good girl and rode indoors Sunday morning for 35 minutes - I'm not sure but I think that's worth about 45 or 50 outdoor minutes. Need to check the Carmichael book for the correct math on that.

Margaret's (or Maggi's depending on when you met me) Tip of The Day:
$100 for a good saddle is worth every penny! The Saddle is where your fanny goes on the bike. NOW, given that you will spend some time on that sucker, you'd like to have a nice seat for your fanny, no?
I recommend a Terry Saddle - they are like buttah! I have one that just keeps my fanny happy.
They make a super cool one that is PINK! the $$ from that saddle goes to Cancer Research.
pink Ti
Nope, I've not plunked down for that one yet - maybeif I get a fun custom jobbie =)
much love and time for beddy bye

It's too darn cold....

Well Saturday AM will bring temps int eh hi teens to mid 20's, so the group will be training indoors.
Sadly they will all be in MD =( what's wrong with a spin club in VA? So I will be riding in the comfort of my own home with my nice TV and my jammies. There is something to be said about riding my bike in the morning in pink flannel jammies with a cup of coffee in my hand watching Katie and Matt. Do I have a photo of myself do this? lord no =)

So in need of warm days!

So we've got a good training ride coming up. Out in Western Maryland - beautiful area - I love it in the spring. As you ride along, there are all these little spots, little hide-aways that you miss in the car. I love it. We'll be doing about 30 miles. FUN!
I'll have pictures up some time sunday.
HOPEFULLY if it's nice out I go out on Sunday and Monday =)
Night night! =) M

June 6, 2004, 6 AM - Waaaaaaay too early
Waaaaaaaaaaaaay beautiful

So I'm a little nutty....

Yea, I'm going to ride in the mountains of Tahoe again for love and for money. The love is my own i share with those I know affected by cancer. The money is given to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
I'll add more as in a few more days (it's a little late in the day and I'm sleepy)
I've had two trainiing rides so far the first about 15 miles, the second about 29 miles. With this cold weather my lungs aren't too happy that I'm starting so early in the year, but from what I remember of climbing Mt. Spooner, Early is good.I'll post some photos of Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, around 6 AM @ mile 15 on last years ride.
=)
