Real Life doesn't have spell check

Ignorance is despicable

I was sent a link to a blog
I am all for expressing ones thoughts, but this one sent me off the deep end.
I shutter to share this person's post. If I don't share it, I don't give him creedance.
But it cut to the quick.
This educated person... to have these thoughts...

I will admit to dropping to his level in my response, but I found myself and recovered

  • Ok. There are times and places. And to make fun of peoples suffering is fundamentally wrong. And anyone who says ‘I am not racist, but…’ is a turd. So I understand your anger and I’m replying on your site because the other one was not worthy of a response (from me or you)

But a few things to consider. One of the great things we (non Americans) admire about the USA is your national pride, your unity, your vision. That’s why Katrina has shocked us more than just the scale of the disaster. The lack of vision by your government in taking preventative measures for a disaster that had been prophesised by many (including a four page article in Scientific American). The apparent lack of response to the disaster by the government. But most shocking, the lack of a sense community facing a common hardship. Perhaps in America, more than anywhere, we expected to see a people facing disaster together, being heroes and coming through. Not unscathed, but stronger, better, prouder. The descent into barbarism in New Orleans was shocking to us outsiders, primarily because we all believed it just couldn’t happen in the USA. That’s from an Englishman. I would imaging that if you live in a poor country such as the Philippines that is hit fairly regularly by major typhoons and sort of copes, the complete collapse of civilisation in Louisiana (according to the press portrayals) must be doubly shocking.

As for your insane (but enjoyable) rant, in response…
The U.S. foreign-aid budget as a percentage of gross national product (GNP) ranks last among the world’s wealthiest countries (at about 0.1 percent).
Rescued everyone’s butts in WW2? As a European I thought you turned up late after the Russians had pretty much won, and only bothered then because you didn't fancy a communist Europe.
The foreign policy of the USA (and Europe – I’m not singing the UK’s praises here) is largely protectionist. It is specifically designed to protect home interests (both agricultural, industrial and scientific) at any cost and keep other poorer nations, well, poorer. Don’t expect to be thanked if you then give the odd hand out.
I could go on but you get the point.

That said, you will rebuild New Orleans. It will be better, braver, stronger, kinder. And it will make the USA better, braver, stronger and kinder. The aftermath of Katrina was a shocker. But you will learn, and you will change and you will grow. That ability is your true greatness.

  • WW2 - I'd like to thank Hollywood and years of American History indoctrination for the "saving everyones asses" Yeah, we were late, but hey, we did a good job, no? =)

    Thanks OMR

  • Hmmm, guess they took their blog down cuz it's not there anymore. Sounds like that might have been a good thing.

  • Actually, the blog's still there. If you're smart enough, you'll find it but i doubt the she'll let anyone enter their comments now.

Anyhoo, I know the person who made the blog entry. She's really a nice person. We both have the same habit of ranting in our blogs. Hell, i've noticed your blog has the same rants as well. Only the issue of racism and the like are not there.

i think you just caught her at a bad time, Margaret Garcia.

And for the record, i agree with what OLD MAN RICH said. You really need to check your history. Why are people so ethnocentric in this country?

Anyway, that's all i have to say. A person is entitled to his or her opinion, no matter how racist or insane or stupid it may be. The problem is when people try to make a big deal out of something so insignificant. Jeez.

  • I rant but I do something about it. You have no right to bitch if you don't act.

I don't joke about death and racism - I've sent it, i've felt it.
It was bad timing for the people in NO, LA, no?
